Alicia Murillo, Jacob Jensen lead Beavers with Top-10 finishes at Mark Schuck Open

MANKATO, Minn. – Minot State distance runners Alicia Murillo and Jacob Jensen led the way Saturday with Top-10 finishes on the track that rank them in the Top 10 in the NSIC, as the Beaver track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato.

Murillo led the way for the Minot State women as she finished third in the 1,000 meters in 3 minutes, 7.17 seconds on Saturday, good for the eighth-fastest time run in that event this winter in the NSIC.

While she led the way Saturday for the Minot State women, Jensen led the way for the men as he finished seventh in the mile Saturday in 4:20.04, the sixth-fastest time in the event in the NSIC this winter.

While Murillo and Jensen led the way, plenty of other Minot State student-athletes enjoyed solid performances as Kori Nagel, Jenna Hardy, and Kenyon Sophia on the women's side, and Lewis Cotterill, Tito Gonzalez, Leif Nelson, Corbin Harris, and Samuel Kreins on the men's side as all turned in Top-10 finishes on Saturday.

Cotterill, the reigning NSIC Track Athlete of the Week, finished fourth in the men's 800 meters in 1:56.70 on Saturday while Nelson was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 0.75 inches, Harris was seventh in that event with a mark of 46-4.25, and Kreins was 10th with a throw of 45-0.25, and Gonzalez added a 10th-place finish in the men's 5,000 meters in 16:13.80.

On the women's side, Nagel was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 44-1.25 and Hardy was seventh with a throw of 42-1.25, and Sophia was 10th in the women's weight throw with a distance of 50-9.5.

The Minot State track and field teams continue a busy winter in preparation for the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 25-26, which will be hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato, by competing at meets in North Dakota and Colorado next weekend. The Beavers will send part of their team to the North Dakota State Bishop Open in Fargo on Friday and Saturday, while other Minot State student-athletes will be in action at the Colorado School of Mines Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday.
