BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – One stroke better, the Beavers still find themselves ninth after day two of play at the NSIC Men's Golf Championship.
Andrew Makarchuk and Aaron Grandy each shaved six strokes on their first-round performances leading the way for the Minot State men who shot a 318 on Saturday, improving on their first-round performance but leaving the Beavers ninth at 61-over 637 (319-318).
The Beavers' Saturday push did close the gap some on eighth place the University of Mary, which sits one stroke in front of Minot State at 60-over 636.
Bemidji State continued to lead the way for all teams, holding a three-shot edge on Winona State for the team lead heading into Sunday's final round at the Adams Pointe Golf Club. Bemidji State sits at 15-over 591. Winona State is second at 18-over 594.
As for Makarchuk and Grandy, they shot rounds of 5-over 77 and 7-over 79, respectively, on Saturday to climb the standings as Makarchuk moved up eight spots and is tied for 33rd at 16-over 160 (83-77), and Grandy jumped seven spots and is tied for 39th at 20-over 164 (85-79).
Joshua Tu continued to lead the way for Minot State as he is tied for 26th at 13-over 157 (78-79), and
Zach Hendrickson finds himself in 38th at 18-162 (79-83).
Aimery Barrault rounded out the scores for the Beavers as he is 45th at 21-over 165 (79-86).
Individually, Winona State's Gabe Goodman climbed into the tournament lead with a 3-under 69 on Saturday and holds a four-shot advantage on second-place Kurt Lambert of Concordia, St. Paul. Good leads the tournament with a two-day total of 4-under 140.
