MINOT, N.D. – Offensive explosions on the ice and on the pitch powered Minot State's 
Colby Joseph and 
Sabrina Amezcua to honors for the month of October.
Leading the way for the 2
nd-ranked Minot State men's hockey team, Joseph scored 6 goals and added 7 assists in eight games last month, earning him the Pinnacle Employee Benefits Minot State Male Athlete of the Month award for October.
Meanwhile, Amezcua led the way for the Beaver women's soccer team, scoring 8 goals and assisting on 2 others in 9 games to earn the Pinnacle Employee Benefits Minot State Female Athlete of the Month award for October.
Pinnacle Employee Benefits became the title sponsor for Minot State's Athlete of the Month award during the 2021-22 academic year. The award recognizes the outstanding athletic achievements each month of one male and one female Beaver student-athlete.
Leading the way with a team-best 13 points in the first month of the season for the Beaver men's hockey team, Joseph had at least 1 point in seven of Minot State's eight games, scoring a goal in six different contests.
His goal against Jamestown in the season-opener on the road also proved to be the game-winner in the Beavers' 3-2 victory.
Joseph and the Minot State men's hockey team (7-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 MCH) are back in action this Saturday on the road, playing at No. 12-ranked Mary.
Meanwhile, Amezcua led the offense for the Beaver women's soccer team with 8 goals in October, scoring in six different games and netting a pair of goals in back-to-back Beaver wins.
She scored a pair of goals in a 5-0 win at Jamestown, then scored twice and added one of her two assists in a 4-0 win at Southwest Minnesota State. She also scored the game-winning goal against the Mustangs.
Amezcua added a goal and her other assist in a 3-1 win at Minnesota Duluth, and had the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win at home on Halloween night against Minnesota Crookston.
Amezcua and the Minot State women's soccer team (8-5-4 overall, 8-2-4 NSIC) wrap up the regular season at home this Thursday, hosting Mary at 2 p.m. at First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium with a chance to clinch a home playoff game with a victory.
