MINOT, N.D. — The Minot State men's basketball team heads back on the road this week as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play continues following a challenging home weekend inside the Minot State University Dome.
The Beavers enter the week with an 8-12 overall record and a 5-9 mark in NSIC action after falling to Augustana on Friday and Wayne State on Saturday.
Minot State opened the weekend with an 82-75 loss to Augustana. Deuce Benjamin led the Beavers with 21 points, while Darik Dissette added 19 points and two steals. Minot State showed early momentum, using a 7-0 run in the opening minutes to take the lead, and later tied the game early in the second half following a Trey Brandt three. The Beavers found consistent success inside, scoring 20 points in the paint, but Augustana pulled away late to secure the win.
Saturday's contest saw Minot State fall 85-77 to Wayne State despite a strong performance from Carson Yale, who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Benjamin also finished with 17 points and two steals, while Isaiah Alexander added 14 points and four assists. The Beavers controlled the first half, building a nine-point halftime lead behind strong interior scoring, but Wayne State rallied in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.
Across the weekend, Minot State continued to generate offense in the paint and received balanced scoring from its core contributors, but was unable to close out either contest down the stretch.
This week, the Beavers travel for two important conference road games. Minot State will face Concordia–St. Paul on Friday, January 30, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m., before taking on Winona State University on Saturday, January 31, at 5:30 p.m. as NSIC play continues.
