SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Minot State University volleyball finished the Sioux Falls Halloween Classic with a 2-0 record in day 2 and a 3-1 overall record.
The Beavers took out old Dakota Athletic Conference team Dakota State 3-1 in the first match before sweeping the hosts 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-21) in their second match of the day. The win over Sioux Falls climbs Minot State back to one game under .500 and gives MSU its 13th win of the season.
“We are very happy to be able to take three matches down here against solid opponents,” said MSU head coach
Travis Ward. “We overcame some things and played pretty well today. It is always good when you can beat a team that beat year earlier in the year and we are happy with how we played against Sioux Falls, a team that mirrors us in many ways as we move to the Northern Sun.”
Against the Cougars, Minot State cruised in set 1 and while the next two were a little tighter, didn't slow down much as the match went on. MSU had only two attack errors in set 1 and just 14 over three sets. The Beavers outhit USF 47-31 in kills and had just 14 total errors.
Jen Dixon (So., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) and
Janice Reinbolt (Sr., MH, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) again paced the Beavers offense at the net as Dixon finished with 13 kills and just three errors, while Reinbolt had 10 kills and one error on 19 attempts. Reinbolt, along with
Jaylene Koski (Fr., OH, Humboldt, Saskatchewan) had solid hitting nights as Reinbolt finished with a .474 hitting percentage, while Koski hammered eight kills and hit .417 in the match.
The Cougars got nine kills apiece from Emily Johnson and Chanda Goedken. Charlee Nelson had 18 assists in the loss.
Emily Bryne (Fr., S, Reno, Nev.) paced the Beavers with 42 assists and finished with two service aces. Dixon had a team-high 13 digs.
Minot State took two of three matches against the team moving to the Northern Sun with MSU in 2012, with all of the wins coming from the visitor.
