Minot State falls in tight three games

Beavers swept, but fall by just nine points total

Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn. – The final match score was deceiving Friday night for the Minot State University volleyball program.

On one hand, Minnesota Crookston swept the Beavers 3-0.

On the other, after examining the scores a little closer, showed a much tighter 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 win for the Golden Eagles in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's volleyball.

“We are tired of losing,” said MISU head coach Travis Ward. “Shari Hewson (Sr., MH, New England, N.D.) has a good night for us.”

Hewson and Mallory Sall (Fr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) paced the Beavers as they have all season. Hewson finished with 13 kills and just five hitting errors for MISU and 17 digs, while Sall slammed a team-high 16 kills for the Beavers.

UM Crookston (10-12 overall, 6-9 NSIC), however, used a balanced attack to top the Beavers for the second time this season. Morgan VanGerpen finished with 10 kills and just two hitting errors to pace the Golden Eagles. Brittany Looker added nine kills. UMC benefitted by 23 Minot State hitting errors and six service errors.

Emily Byrne (So., S, Reno, Nev.) finished with 36 assists and eight digs for Minot State (5-20 overall, 1-14 NSIC).

The Beavers will look to get back to winning ways with a match at Bemidji State Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
